Manual Pet Strap Sealer (also known as a crimper) along with metal seals and polyester (PET) or polypropylene (PP) strapping. While the user requested a “steel strap sealer,” the tool in the image is a heavy-duty serrated sealer typically used for plastic strapping (PET/PP) because of the serrated seals shown, though the mechanical design is similar across both types.

Operating Instruction

Description

A manual sealer is the second half of the strapping process, used after a tensioner has tightened the strap. Its primary function is to crimp a metal seal (clip) onto the overlapping ends of the strap, creating a permanent, high-strength joint.

The model shown features a front-action design with symmetrical handles. When the handles are squeezed together, the hardened steel jaws “bite” into the metal seal, deforming it (and often the strap) to ensure the load remains secure during transit.

Technical Specifications

Specifications vary based on whether the tool is for steel or plastic strapping, but the standard industrial profile is:

FeatureTypical Specification
Compatible Strap TypesPET, PP (shown in image) or Steel (model dependent)
Compatible Widths1/2″ (13mm), 5/8″ (16mm), or 3/4″ (19mm)
Seal TypeSerrated seals (for plastic) or Open/Closed clips (for steel)
Handle Length15 to 18 inches for high leverage
Joint TypeSingle-notch or Double-notch (depending on jaw geometry)
MaterialHeat-treated carbon steel with powder-coated finish
WeightApprox. 4 to 6 lbs

Key Features

  • High-Leverage Handles: Long handles allow the operator to apply maximum sealing force with minimal effort, ensuring the seal is fully compressed.
  • Hardened Steel Jaws: The “teeth” of the sealer are specially treated to resist wear from repetitive metal-on-metal contact.
  • Serrated Grip Compatibility: The seals in your image have internal “nibs” or serrations. This sealer is designed to crush those serrations into the plastic strapping to prevent slippage.
  • Front-Action Operation: The handles are pushed together perpendicular to the strap, which is ideal for flat surfaces like the tops of pallets or crates.

Usage Instructions

  1. Tension: Use a tensioner tool to pull the strap tight around the package.
  2. Place Seal: Slide a metal seal over the point where the two strap ends overlap.
  3. Position Sealer: Open the sealer handles fully and place the jaws directly over the center of the metal seal.
  4. Crimp: Bring the handles together firmly until they bottom out.
  5. Release: Open the handles and remove the tool; the joint is now secure.

Pro Tip: Ensure your sealer width matches your strap width exactly. Using a 5/8″ sealer on 1/2″ strapping will result in a weak joint that may fail under tension.
